If you are interested in a small charcoal grill but don’t want or are unable to buy one, you can always build your own. One of the greatest benefits of charcoal grills is their simplicity, and this simplicity makes it easy to make one yourself. There are numerous ways you can build your own charcoal grill. Here is a basic description of a standard way to make your own grill.
What you need:
- A metal bowl, or something that is a similar shape to a bowl (it can be square or rectangular as well). It must be a thick, decent quality metal, because it is in this that the charcoal will burn.
- something heat resistant that you can put your “metal bowl” on.
- a grill

And that is it! Now all you need to do is set your grill up, get the charcoal burning, and you are ready to start grilling!

Keep in mind that if you are camping, you don’t “need” any of these. You can dig a hole in the ground where you will build your charcoal fire. Be sure to dig the hole fairly deep and in a place where the ground and surrounding area are not too dry,and where there is no risk of a forest fire. Then fill the hole with charcoal, and cook the meat using a stick or skewer. Of course, whether you build a small charcoal grill or a large one is up to you.

If you want to build your own charcoal grill in your backyard, you can dig a small hole in the ground. Make sure to pack the mud down (the “bowl” which is where you’ll place the charcoal). You can line this hole with scrap sheet metal if you have it. It works best if it is pliable, but you can actually do it with hard, thick sheet metal as well. You just have to make your grill in the shape of a square.

Around the outside edge of your brand new grill, it is a good idea to line it with rocks. They will help prevent fire for the coals that jump out of the hole you dug.

Last of all, you will need a grill to put on top. You then have a great charcoal grill, made with your own hands! Always makes for a good conversation when you have people over for dinner.

One of the best options on the market for a portable charcoal grill is the Cob Premier Portable Grill. It is a nice looking grill that is made from stainless still and is very sturdy. One of the best things about this grill is that it is built so the outside metal is not hot to the touch, meaning you can pick it up and move it around without any worries. The other feature that I found extremely useful is the grease trap that it comes with. Basically, this steers away run off grease into a separate pan, preventing the barbeque from flaring up. It is easy to take apart, meaning cleaning is simple, which is a real plus when you are out camping. It is also very lightweight at just under 12 pounds.

One of the other major selling features is the claim that it can run on eight charcoal briquettes for three hours. I found that it worked a bit better with 10 briquettes for the extra heat, but you can certainly do it with eight. Because of the set-up of the grill, it is easy to get the charcoal lit and burning.

The other unique thing about this Cob Portable Grill is there are many accessories that you can purchase to go with it, such as a skillet, rotisserie, smoker box, etc). Although these add a significant amount to the price, they can really come in handy if you are camping and you want a little variety on what you can cook.

There are no real downsides to this barbeque, other than the fact that it is quite a small charcoal grill. You can cook about 4 small steaks on it, or two really big ones. This may not be big enough if you are cooking for more than 2-4 people, or if you want to prepare a massive feast for two. Also, it is a fairly pricey grill, as it costs somewhere around the $100 mark.

In general, if you’re looking for a high-end portable charcoal bbq, this makes a great option. However, if it’s not quite what your looking for, try checking out our portable charcoal grill reviews.

Once you´ve chosen your portable charcoal grill, you will need to buy a few accessories to go with it. When you ´re in the store, you will realize you could spend a ton of money on accessories, and it can be difficult to choose which are the most useful. Whether you have a small charcoal grill or a large one, the following will give you a general idea on what you need.

One of the most important things you can buy to accompany grill will be a barbeque lighter. A regular lighter or matches will just make things difficult, especially if it is windy or rainy outside. To accompany your barbeque lighter, you can buy a charcoal chimney, which makes lighting charcoal much easier.

You will also need to buy charcoal. Basically, the best charcoal is the purest charcoal. Don´t buy any easy light charcoals because they have chemicals added that will add a bad taste to your food. To move the charcoal around, and get ride of it when you are finished, you should get a small charcoal shovel. This makes moving the charcoal very easy.

It is very important to keep your portable charcoal grill clean, especially because you will be carrying it around. Be sure to buy a decent grill brush, so you can properly clean the grill after cooking. A small brush works best for a portable grill, but make sure the bristles are sturdy.

While cooking, you will need a pair of tongs or a spatula to move your food, and to flip it. Some of the cheaper tongs available are difficult to close, and make it hard to pick up the food. Make sure to test them first, so you know they will work well.

This is a list of the most basic accessories you need to bring with you. After using your grill a few times, you will probably think of some other useful things. However, be careful, because the more stuff you buy, the more you have to carry around!

Cooking with charcoal is much different than cooking with propane. The end result is also different, and much better if done properly. Here are some tips to help you get the best results out of your portable charcoal grill.

One of the most important things when cooking with charcoal is lighting and prepping your coals. There are certain things you can buy to make this easier, but if you don’t have anything, do the following: take some dry old newspaper, scrunch it up, and twist in into cylindrical shaped pieces of paper. Place a few of these at the bottom of the grill. Then place a few pieces of charcoal on top, and light the newspaper in a couple different spots. You should get a pretty decent flame, and as long as it is going for a while, it will light the charcoal. To really get the charcoal going, be sure to blow on the bottom of the flame, which will help light the charcoal.

Once you get the first few pieces of charcoal well lit, you can put the rest of the charcoal onto your portable grill. You will need to cover the base of the barbeque, but the charcoal shouldn´t be stacked. Let the it burn until there is no flame, but the charcoal is red hot, and make sure it is well spread out in the barbeque – there should be about an inch between the actual grill and the coals. If the clearance between the grill and the charcoal is too little, your meat will cook too fast, and will end up dry and chewy – definitely not the way to eat a good steak or some smoked ribs!

Now cut a piece of fat off of the meat, and run it along the lines of the grill. This is done so that when you put the meat down, it will sear very quickly, and give it a nice flavor.

At this point, you are ready to put your meat on the grill, as well as potatoes, chicken, or whatever you are cooking. You can move the coals around if you need to concentrate more heat in certain areas, or if you want to stop cooking something, just remove the coals from underneath that part of the grill. Its important however, not to flip the meat more than twice. While its cook, just relax, take a seat in one of your camping chairs, and enjoy that unbeatable smell of grilled meat.

A charcoal grill is a great way to go when selecting a portable grill to bring with you. It is important that each person pick the one that is right for them, and there are a few things you need to look to help you choose.

First of all, it is important to choose the right size of grill. Some important questions you will need to ask yourself are: how many people will you be cooking for? What do you plan to cook on the grill; a few steaks, or steaks, potatoes, and vegetables? How do you plan on transporting it – by car, walking, bus? By answering these questions, you should have a decent idea of how big a grill you will need.

Make sure that the grill you buy has an adjustable grill, meaning you can change the height of it. This is important so that you can control the amount of heat that your food is receiving. If for some reason you are not able to get an adjustable grill, make sure that the grill will sit at least one inch above the charcoal. This means you will probably need about a 2 inch clearance between the grill and the part that holds the charcoal. If it is any lower, your meat will cook at too high a temperature, which is not ideal for cooking the perfect steak.

Try to buy a charcoal barbeque that has a non-stick grill. These are not always easy to find, but are very handy, as they are much easier to clean. Your charcoal grill should also have something to hold it off the ground. Most have adjustable or foldable legs, and either of these work great. What is important is to make sure the grill is very sturdy – you need a grill that can withstand some wind, and that doesn´t fall over if it gets nudged.

If possible, try to find a grill that has side tables. Some of the nicer portable grills have one or two side tables. You have no idea how useful these are until you use a grill that doesn’t have them. These tables can be used to place bbq accessories, sauces, or appetizers and snacks.

These are the most important things to look for when picking out your portable charcoal grill. If you can find a grill that meets these requirement, it is almost a guarantee you´ll be happy with it. Once you have bought your portable grill, the next most important thing is to learn about cooking with charcoal.

Whether your the type of person that likes to go for a small barbeque at the park, on a camping trip to the middle of nowhere, or you like to hunt your own dinner, you all have one thing in common. You need a nice little portable barbeque to cook yourself a tasty meal. One of the most common options is a portable charcoal grill, and if you choose the right one, you will find it provides you with a few important benefits.

The best thing about a cooking with a charcoal grill is the flavor it gives to the meat. Charcoal gives a much better barbeque flavor to food than any gas grill ever could. In fact, in Argentina, a country known to have the best meat and the best barbeques in the world, they will never use gas to cook their meat. It is always cooked using charcoal because of the delicious, rich, smokey flavor it gives.

A portable charcoal grill is also the cheapest type of grill available, because it is very basic. Essentially, all you need is a solid bowl of metal held up by legs, with a grill on top. It is therefore cheaper to buy, and very durable. Charcoal grills are also much safer, because you do not need to carry around propane, which can be a hazard. There is always a chance that something happens to the propane and it explodes.

Although there are many benefits to using a portable charcoal grill, they are not for everybody. Charcoal is more difficult to cook with, because controlling the temperature is not as easy. One has to be somewhat experienced in cooking with charcoal to get good results. It is not hard to do, you just need to know the basics.

Another downside to cooking with charcoal is that lighting the charcoal can be a challenge without the right tools or know-how, especially if it is wet outside. Furthermore, charcoal can get messy if you’re not careful, because it’s black and can easily get onto clothes or personal items.

Basically, a propane gas grill is cleaner and more simple. A charcoal grill is cheaper, safer, and the final results are much better! If you decide that a charcoal portable grill is right for you, your next step is knowing how to choose one.
